The House on the Moor - 23rd July 2006 and 4th August 2006

Haunted Devon had visited the house on the moor previously for a filming project with ITV however did not really get the chance to carry out a full investigation.  On Friday the 4th August 2006 the team had a chance to revisit the location in order to obtain additional evidence.

Introduction

The house had a verifiable history back to the C1400.  Obviously the need the location of the house to be kept a secret is paramount and subsequently no additional details have been disclosed.  On our previous visit two of our members had been taken ill one being physically sick the other describing an event that took place in one of the former bedrooms: 1st Floor bedroom next to Dressing room - 23/07/2006 "Approx 02:00 (24/07/2006) I started to get an uneasy feeling with regard to the corner opposite to the built-in wardrobe, facing the window (North east corner I think). Shortly after Lucy began to feel sick, she was nearest this corner. Lucy then left the room. I then remember something catching my attention in the corner of my eye in the same corner, I then remember Byron asking if I was OK and did I see something. can’t remember if I answered or not, at this point I am not totally clear of the sequence of events but I saw a young boy approx 7-8 years of age with a brown jacket and a “basin” style haircut  step out from the corner quickly advancing to were I was sat his face coming up close to mine (I was sat in a folding chair with my head turned to the corner). I immediately felt anxious and uneasy, I also remember feeling great heat. When I returned to the room I was covered in perspiration and had a mark on the left side of my face (the side facing away from the corner). I was unable to stay in the room following this. Shortly after I found it difficult to stand or concentrate, I can only describe this as a feeling of disorientation."

The member went on to make a FULL recovery and to revisit the house on the later investigation.  The picture above hopefully shows the sweat on the members hands once he had been persuaded to re enter the house. Outside Perimeter Of Building EMF’s – Fluctuating magnetic field detected along the front of the building peaking at 0.6 milligauss.

This is probably due to an underground electrical cable beneath the pavement and may well explain the fluctuating fields found in some of the rooms at the front of the house. NID – Steady reading at 0.5 Ambient Temperature – 14 C General No condensation was noted anywhere in the house. There was no significant rise or fall of ambient temperature during the investigation. The ambient temperature did rise in areas to 22 C due to the presence of investigators within the house. No changes in EMF’s were detected at any time during the investigation.

Weather Conditions were dry and sunny at the start of the baseline test and remain that way until dark. There was a light rain shower  after nightfall.

Medium Use

Our medium for the evening was Phil Simpson. The video extracts from his baseline walk appear below shortly: Investigation A variety of investigative techniques were used throughout the evening however they failed to provide substantial evidence to indicate that the house was haunted.  I have included an article written by Caz Parnell regarding her own thoughts on the evenings events:

My first Investigation with Haunted Devon

 The TV House  04/08/06  

"The house in which our investigation was to take place dates back to around the 14th century and is set up a side street, there are small shops at the front and the property is set at the back. The team had previously visited this house a short time ago, unexplained phenomena had occurred, and felt it warranted another visit.  We entered the building up a side alleyway between two houses; the house on the left was still occupied by a local potter, but the house in which our investigation was to take place had been empty for some time.

The owner had very kindly allowed us access. The alleyway seemed to be a very busy place at some point in the past, with people up and down, also I felt animals were involved as well. This was later verified by Phil the medium. Upon entering the house I felt a slight apprehension, the atmosphere to me seemed oppressive. The house itself had, had some partial renovations on the floors and some walls, but on the whole it was in quite a dilapidated state, with amounts of rubble in areas, so we had to be very careful where we tread. I knew at this point that I was not picking anything up from the team as we were all looking forward to the night ahead, and as I was a new bod on the team I was made to feel very welcome. We proceeded up a narrow flight of stairs and all gathered in our resource room, where Byron gave us the plan and guidelines for the evening.  We first split off into small groups. I was placed in a group with three others. We entered into a room on the first floor. With all lights we set about asking if spirits were in the room with us.

Paul had his EMF meter at the ready, this device measures the electromagnetic frequencies in milligauss and anything over 10 milieus is considered high and potentially harmful, but could also indicate a paranormal presence. I was drawn to a small area to the back which had a narrow blocked off staircase to the right, I sat there for a while and felt the presence of an older man, very frail who seemed to me to be bent over, and had died from malnutrition and disease of the lungs, he would shuffle about. Paul’s EMF meter seemed to stop working for a short period here.  I sat in another area of the room and suddenly felt quite nauseas and started coughing, another member of the team also felt quite sick, luckily the condition went as quickly as it had came. I saw a spirit of a little girl which stood between Paul and Tracy, she had light coloured mousey hair, and what looked like a white dress but was very dirty and bare footed.

The name of Mary Elizabeth, and I felt Branscome was given; this little girl liked the company of others, as in her physical like felt very alone.  After a short break we all gathered into a room on the third floor. Phil guided us through an energy building and protecting exercise. At this point I was quite glad of a break as I felt quite hot, and we stood outside while three others did lone vigils in the house.  We all gathered again for a séance to hopefully encourage the spirits of the house to communicate. There were a few audible taps but nothing significant, also small pinpricks of blue and white light in areas.

At one point all men left the room, apart from Phil. Phil and I sensed movement within the room, my chest felt as if a great weight had been placed upon it and a pricking energy sensation all down my right side. Other team members picked up details about the owner and there were some olfactory manifestations of rose scent and tobacco.  After a short while Byron then came in and asked who would like to do a lone vigil, I said yes and took my place in the kitchen area just across from the room we had been in. With lights out and a peace descending around me; I called out to ascertain if anyone was with me in the room. Apart from a light tapping sound and small flashes of light, nothing else occurred.  We gathered for the final time and Phil established a vortex of light to guide the spirits of the house to their destination within the realms of spirit to find peace. And after closing in prayer, Byron thanked the owner of the house for her kindness in allowing us to visit once more. 

The night for us finished around 2am. We did capture some audible evidence and some of the crew had felt different sensations, we all felt that on this occasion the house was pretty quiet. However I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and very much am looking forward to many more."  Caz

Conclusion

The house on this occasion was extremely quiet and failed to provide any additional evidence for the team.  It was a lovely house and I am sure that it holds many secrets but were not to made public on this occasion.  Our sincere thanks to the owners and also to the team members that took part.
