Infrasound

Infrasound

So what is Infrasound?

Well sound itself is a sequence of waves of pressure that vibrations through a compressible media such as air, water or even solid materials and gases.

In the instance of Air, when the waves of pressure reaches our eardrum, the waves are transformed from a pressure wave to mechanical vibrations of the bone structure of the ear itself, these vibrations are then transmitted to the fluid of the inner ear where they are converted to electrical nerve impulses which are sent to the brain which interprets them as a sound.

The sequence of waves themselves can travel at different frequencies, for us humans that frequency Has to be above 20Hz for our brains to register it and convert it as a sound, below 20Hz and we simply don’t hear it, so Infrasound is the name given to a low frequency sound which is too low for us humans to hear, but while we may not hear the sound it doesn’t mean we can’t feel the vibrations. So what can be the cause of Infrasound?

Infrasound can result naturally from Severe Weather, High Winds and Lightning, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Aurorae and the of the waves of the Ocean can all produce infrasound vibrations, also machinery can produce Infrasound waves such as diesel engines, sub-woofer speakers, sonic booms, Wind Turbines and even household fridges.  Many animals are known to use Infrasound to communicate over hundreds of miles such as the whale, Elephants produce infrasound waves by stamping their feet, which can  travel through the ground and can be sensed by other herds, often during their mating season, Birds and Bats both use it to navigate and stalk their prey. Ok so enough of the sciences of Infrasound, where does it all fit in with the Paranormal or Ghosts? Well one theory is that ghosts or spirits communicate to us on a different frequency, and although we don’t hear them, or maybe not clearly, we may well pick up an often unexplained voice or sound especially when using a recording device during investigations.

We are often spooked by things we can’t naturally explain, with the feeling of being watched, or headaches, feeling nauseous, a shiver down your spine as somebody walk over your grave as they say, perhaps seeing blurred movements in your peripheral vision, but are these really paranormal experiences or is it just science that is tricking us and playing on our susceptible minds? After all we do put ourselves in certain situations to hopefully experience something.

Studies taken place have shown that these effects can be attributed to low frequency levels of infrasound, and even a frequency of 19 Hz could be the cause of a visual disturbance!!

So Paranormal or just Science? I guess we will all experience something which will be unexplainable to us during our investigations as anything can happen in a split second, those spirits can be darn sneaky you know, and although we may think of a logical explanation there will be more times when we can’t, we often hear of animals refusing to go into certain rooms of a house, science might provide an explanation, or it is that they are just more perceptible than us in the Paranormal World?.
